Dr. Judith Orloff Text Excerpt

Dr. Judith Orloff
I am a psychiatrist and I’m also an intuitive. What that means is I combine traditional medical knowledge with intuition. In this book, senses of energy and positive and negative energy, which I incorporate into my work.
I was brought up in Beverly Hills. I have two physician parents, 25 physicians in my family.
Tom
Twenty five?
Dr. Judith Orloff
Oh yeah, twenty five. And I was this little girl who had premonitions about things. I would predict deaths and illnesses and earth quakes. My parents got so freaked out by this they said “never mention another one of your intuitions again at home.” So I grew up believing there was something wrong with me.
And my healing path has been as a physician, and as a woman, to integrate intuition and senses of energy into my life. My mission is really to integrate that into health care. And teach others how to sense energy, how to trust energy, how to sense intuition. That’s what Positive Energy is devoted to.
Tom
So intuition and sensing energy. They’re not identical are they?
Dr. Judith Orloff
No. But the first chapter of the book is awakening intuition. Because you need to awaken your intuition in order to sense energy.
You cannot sense energy with your mind. The mind, the linier mind, can’t get you there. By intuition, I mean tuning into the body or that gut feeling or that sense of connection that you feel.
I interviewed Quincy Jones behind this chapter on intuition. He calls it “listening to the goose bumps.” Listening to the goose bumps for all those years, 50 years as a musician. He has listened to that. He says that Coltrane, Miles Davis, listened to their goose bumps. They don’t question whether intuition exists. The fact that medicine questions it is very astounding to me. But everyone can tap into intuition. It’s just part of being human.
